EVERY PARTICIPANT SUPPORTS LIFE-SAVING CANCER RESEARCH

Together, with every dollar we raise, we’re transforming the way cancer is treated here in Canada and around the world.

The funds raised from Le Week-end directly support over 30 oncologists, 7 radiation oncologists and 30 researchers at the Segal Cancer Centre, who show up each day and push the boundaries of cancer care.

In fact, the Segal Cancer Centre is home to several hundred “world-firsts” in cancer research and it’s in part thanks to your fundraising dollars.

PARTICIPANT STORIES

France Bélanger

“In July 2016, it was established that my chemotherapy treatments since 2014 and my stem cell transplant have not yielded the expected results. My only hope lay in identifying a research study and becoming eligible.

I was informed that research into non-Hodgkin's lymphoma would begin at the JGH's Segal Cancer Centre. I met Dr. Nathalie Johnson, the physician in charge of the project, and the research unit's support team. I felt surrounded by competent and dedicated people with the firm intention of supporting me to the best of their ability. In August 2021, the treatments finally came to an end.

This year will mark my fifth year participating in Le Week-end. Le Week-end is an opportunity to raise funds to support cancer researchers at the JGH, who are keen to innovate through cutting-edge research and committed to providing the best possible care.”

“We have all been touched by this terrible disease. My mother had breast cancer and left us in 1985. What more could I have done? I was really lost.

When I was introduced to the Bikus Urachus team by a close friend, I was not a big bike rider, so the first year, I was a sweep volunteer. I was inspired to complete 240 km with the team in the following years and raised substantial funds for the cause.

We are in our 11th year, and the importance of this fundraising has not faded. I got more involved and designed the jerseys our team wears. I do not see myself stopping. As the logo on our jersey states: ONE TEAM. ONE DREAM. CURE CANCER.”
