A CAUSE WORTH FIGHTING FOR
DOLLARS AT WORK
Your support of Le Week-end means you are playing a crucial role in ensuring that the JGH—Quebec’s top-ranked hospital—and its Segal Cancer Centre remain at the forefront of cancer care and innovation.
In addition to exceptional patient care, the Segal Cancer Centre boasts a thriving cancer research program making breakthroughs in the fields of molecular oncology, cancer genetics, biomarkers in cancer therapy, and the study of new treatments—with a focus on cancers such as breast, ovarian, prostate and leukemia, among others.
FOCUS ON ONCOLOGY
Renowned oncologist and Director, Dr. Gerald Batist, shares his unique perspective on the JGH’s Segal Cancer Centre, and how this state-of-the-art facility and incomparable interdisciplinary team are leading the way to provide patients with the most comprehensive approach to care, at each step of their journey—including cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, psychosocial support and nutritional support.
PARTICIPANT STORIES
“My mother fought cancer from 2003 all the way up to 2022.
2003 was the first appearance of the brain glioma, and doctors gave her six months to live. At the time, I was five years old. It unfortunately got my mother in 2022, after 19 years of fighting.
Before my mother passed away, I promised her to get involved and keep giving back the way she did.
For me, participating in Le Week-end can bring money, of course, but even more so happiness and strength to the people that really need it. It is a way for me to honour her and to show her that she did an amazing job as my mother, and my little brother’s.“

“When I was diagnosed with cancer, the Segal Cancer Centre became my home for several months while I underwent treatment. It’s where my incredible oncologist, nurses, and support staff made a tough time just a little bit easier.
In 2021, I benefited directly from money raised through Le Week-end pour combattre le cancer. The funds go straight to cancer research, like the research study I participated in with Dr. Nathalie Johnson, which evaluates the role of physical activity in cancer survivors.
I am grateful and humbled to be here and to be healthy. I can tell you that I have directly benefited from donations. I know that future patients, survivors and their families will too.”
