Softball Memory Clinic 2022 - In support of the JGH Memory Clinic
Donate Now
2022 is our 31st anniversary of The Jewish General Hospital/McGill University Memory Clinic and the 21st year of raising money for the clinic through our softball team, the Trailmakers.
Our Canadian elderly population is increasing every year. As people age, there are higher incidences of degenerative illnesses, such as dementia. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive major neurological disorder that affects memory, language, nonverbal skills, and daily functioning. In the past 30 years, our knowledge of, and the ability to diagnosis the disease has improved. While it is accurate to say that the devastating effects of the disease increase with age, a growing number of people under age 65 are also being affected. Unfortunately, most of us have known or will know a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a colleague who is suffering the effects of dementia. It is estimated that nearly one baby boomer in five will develop Alzheimer’s disease.
Our clinic and research programs have established the Memory Clinic as one of Canada’s leading centers for diagnosis and treatment of dementia in the country. The need for our specialized neuropsychological, medical, and counseling services has consistently grown and will continue to expand. Our clinic is the largest of its kind in Canada, treating 800 patients per year.
As part of our fundraising activity, in May 2002 we formed a softball team, The Memory Clinic Trailmakers. Our mission is to go outside the physical parameters of the clinic and embrace the community and connect with companies and organizations. Our purpose is to promote awareness of this disease with the goal of raising funds. We have played against pharmaceutical companies, technology companies, radio/television stations, synagogues, financial companies, an airline company, an orthopedics company, and accounting firms. Our vision is to encourage contributions to strike out dementia. In 2019, with the generous contributions of individuals and groups we were able to purchase evaluation materials and specialized software programs.
Our goal for the 2022 softball season is to raise funds for additional diagnostic tools and staff training, which is an integral part of our Memory Clinic assessment services which will help promote continued excellence within our clinic. We are looking for companies and other organizations to support our clinic in the fight against Alzheimer’s and related neurological disorders.
If you would like to make any inquiries about donating or playing softball this summer to strike out dementia please contact us.
Donations over $15 and over are tax deductible.
We appreciate your support.
